Ace Tennis Academy founder urges parents to expose their children to sports

Naa Shika says parents have the responsibility of finding the right sport for their wards to determine their strengths and interests

CEO and founder of Ace Tennis Academy Ghana and Africa Tennis Connect Naa Shika Adu has urged parents to expose their children to sports.

Naa Shika says parents have the responsibility of finding the right sport for their children to determine their strengths and interests.

The former tennis star also emphasised on the importance of research in selecting the best sport for children.

Speaking on Asaase Radio 99.5’s Team Talk on Saturday (18 May) she said, “the first thing we need to do as people from parents to kids is to try and do a lot of research. The fundamental thing is that we need to do a lot of research and even the parents, research about the sports you want your kids to go into, allow the kids to explore, don’t look at football, don’t look at what you’re used to.”

“Go online, and search, What are the sports disciplines that there is? If I look at my kid, if I push them here and here, what do I think my kid would be good at? Expose these kids to sports, because at the end of the day, if you’re not doing it, nobody can come and take your kid from home and train your kid for you.”

She added, “You have to make the you have to go out there and then search and put your kids into these programmes.”

Naa Shika’s Ace Tennis Academy is a subsidiary of Africa Tennis Connect that offer  opportunities for individuals of all ages, whether they are aspiring players, professionals, or tennis enthusiasts, to access world-class training programs.

“I have three branches in Accra  – Cantonments, East Legon and Korle-Bu- so we are available for any kid and if you want to do recreational centers, if you want to do professional tennis, whatever you want to do, we would give your kid the fundamental training that they need.” she added.

Africa Tennis Connect (ATC) is a non-profit organisation and social enterprise in Accra, Ghana, dedicated to leveraging the transformative potential of sports to address societal challenges and create equal opportunities.
