The days have hurried by since the 4 August launch of the Asaase Sound Clash – the “Clash2CrushCOVID” – and so soon, September, the month for the much-anticipated musical “clash” between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale in the maiden edition of the Asaase Sound Clash is just a week away.
With “D-day” inching ever closer by the minute, fans and followers are on edge and the artistes themselves are busily preparing for the much-awaited event. The Clash2CrushCOVID will be a leveller and should put an end to the disputes about “who’s who” among fans of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
In tune with the vibe of the event, Asaase Radio’s Rush Hour team, led by DJ Elvis Crystal, spent Thursday afternoon at Stonebwoy’s residence. The 1GAD man was a generous host, sharing his thoughts on a range of issues and letting Asaase Radio listeners and viewers in on his expectations of his face-off with Shatta Wale come 12 September.
“I stand for peace at all costs”
Stonebwoy used the occasion to call for peace in Ghana before, during and after the December elections.
He said: “First and foremost, we need peace in these times. I went out there to Ashaiman, my constituency, encouraging them to register, because these are the ways in which you can also add your voice. It’s not by just talking or being social media active: you have to actually get involved.”
Stonebwoy, who believes “we are all the same people”, also said: “I beg to speak humbly and stand for peace at all costs. As a role model, as a father figure, as a brother, as a cousin, I beg that we all seek peace.”
He urged voters to make their choice by considering issues and let the work of the individual political parties stand as testament to their credibility.
“Just show us what you have done and tell us what you are going to do for us,” he said.
Rush Hour with the Bhim president
The Clash2Crash COVID is an Asaase Radio initiative which is helping to create awareness of the novel coronavirus infection in Ghana, its modes of transmission, the measures which help prevent it and ways of checking its spread.
The new coronavirus swept over the world from China and has quickly become a global pandemic, rocking the economic foundations of nations the world over.
Giving credence to its motto “The Voice of Our Land”, Asaase Radio is using the Clash2CrashCOVID event to educate and inform the people in Ghana and the Ghanaian diaspora about the grave global health threat we face.
The Clash2CrashCOVID will raise awareness of the potential effects of the disease for all of us, regardless of who we are, where we come from, or what we do. It will also share information to remind young Ghanaians in particular of what they can do to keep themselves safe.
For the Asaase events team to be able to achieve their goal with the sound clash, they decided to partner with the top two reigning dancehall artistes in Ghana – Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
Together, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have a fan base of over six million followers on social media. The Sound Clash is also incidental fun, and a great opportunity for fans to settle for themselves the question of who the true King of Dancehall should be.
Specially for fans
The crowning moment of our Thursday afternoon with Stonebwoy was the spur-of-the-moment mini-concert he put on for crew and fans on the special Asaase Radio live broadcast from his home. The “Nominate” crooner performed a couple of his songs and answered questions from fans.
Speaking about his expectations for the Sound Clash, Stonebwoy threw a light jab at Shatta Wale, saying: “In a mathematical equation where we have to crush COVID after the clash, whereby Stonebwoy, 1GAD Bhim Nation president, is the vaccine, identify the virus.”
Fans and followers of both musicians – the Shatta Movement and Bhim Nation – will not be left out. You, too, are part of this epic event. You can decide who wins by voting for either one of the dancehall supremos by calling the short codes *800*995*1# for Shatta Wale and *800*995*2# for Stonebwoy.
The Clash2CrashCOVID will be streamed live on all Asaase Radio social media platforms. It will also be streamed live through the Asaase Radio mobile app. Download the Asaase Radio app now from the Apple and Google Play stores, and enjoy a great listening experience.
