On Wednesday, 6 March 2024, in Niamey, Niger, the Chiefs of Staff of the Armies of Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali announced the upcoming establishment of a Joint Force to take charge of security challenges, notably the fight against terrorism.
The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) has announced the creation of a joint force to be led by the Niger. The force will be responsible for the security of the AES region.
The Nigerien Army has been called upon to guarantee peace and stability in the country after recent terrorist attacks in the Liptako-Gourma area.
The AES believe cooperation is necessary to overcome security challenges in the Sahelian region.
Brigadier General Moussa Salaou Barmou said that the Alliance of Sahel States is making significant progress in the fight against terrorism and transnational organized crime. They must now work to implement an effective and efficient strategy to contain all kinds of threats.
