Ambulance case: Demand for release of video irrelevant to substantive case, says AG’s office

Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing case against Cassiel Ato Forson, on Friday (23 May), alleged in court that the Attorney General had repeatedly tried to persuade him to falsely implicate the Minority Leader

The spokesperson of the Office of the Attorney General, Isaac Wilberforce Mensah has said the demand for the release of video to substantiate claims by the third accused that he is being persuaded to falsely implicate Cassiel Ato Forson will be irrelevant to the ongoing ambulance trial.

Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing case against Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, on 23 May alleged in court that the Attorney General had repeatedly tried to persuade him to falsely implicate the Minority Leader and former deputy finance minister.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that it will soon present evidence supporting the claims of the third accused in the ongoing ambulance procurement trial.

However, speaking to Benjamin Offei-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (24 May), Mensah said “If the footage is ever released it will have absolutely nothing to do with the trial.”

“Maybe for social reasons remember he was also a former minister of state so maybe for political reasons… but as it stands now in respect of the case in court that video is unimportant.”

He added, “…we can’t be seriously responding and heeding to commands of other persons. The focus is on the prosecution and that’s what his job is.”

He, however, explained that the Attorney General may release the video when it becomes necessary for the ongoing trial.
