Ameyaw-Akumfi warns NPP: Unite or Perish
This call for unity comes amidst efforts to reconnect with disaffected members like Hon. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the independent candidate in the Ejisu by-election, signaling a pivotal moment for the party as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Council of Elders, has emphasized the need for the party to heed the lessons from the just-ended Ejisu by-elections as they approach the crucial December 7 general elections.
Former NPP MP, now an independent candidate, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, posed a significant challenge to the party’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng during a fierce contest but ultimately fell short of victory.
Aduomi had also criticized the party for neglecting crucial issues regarding the delegates’ list, which he argued undermines the party’s integrity and fairness.
Speaking on Techiman-based Asta FM on Wednesday (1 May), Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi endorsed the National Chairman’s call for reconciliation within the party, not only in Ejisu but nationwide where internal divisions exist.
“I was touched by the statement from our national chairman about his resolve to reach out to Aduomi. I feel these reconciliation efforts could have been done long ago especially during the aftermath of the presidential and parliamentary elections, but it is not too late”, he said in Twi.
“The writing is on the wall. NPP needs to unite or perish”, he remarked.
