This initiative is part of AngloGold Ashanti's 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan launched in 2022

AngloGold Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, on February 13, 2024, delivered a fully furnished building to serve as the Obuasi District Police Headquarters.

The gesture, according to officials of the mining giant contributes to the enhancement of security in Obuasi and its environs.

This initiative is part of AngloGold Ashanti’s 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan launched in 2022. The company pledged support to improve security in the area, including providing resources for police patrols and constructing police posts to enhance operations.

In 2023, the company began the construction of the ultramodern Police station, which now serves as the District Headquarters at Bidiem in the Obuasi Municipality.

The handover ceremony was attended by the acting managing director of AngloGold Ashanti, Awie Frey, who highlighted the importance of identifying the need for infrastructure through regular strategic engagements with security agencies.

AngloGold Ashanti has been a consistent supporter of the Ghana Police Service, donating three brand new Toyota Hilux pick-ups to the Obuasi District, Obuasi Division, and the newly created Ashanti South Regional Commands. Additionally, the company launched a Community Safety and Security Programme, establishing a multi-security stakeholder committee to carry out intensive public education on security and safety.

The construction of the police station was carried out by Obuasi-based local construction firm Kenzad Construction Limited, aligning with AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to supporting local contractors as part of its 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan.

Guests at the handover program included ACP George Ankomah, the Ashanti South Regional Police commander, who praised AngloGold Ashanti’s impactful support, emphasizing that the new District Headquarters would significantly contribute to reducing crime and improving security in the area.

The Member of Parliament for Obuasi West, Kwaku Agyeman Kwarteng, and Edubiasehemaa Nana Akua Dwum II also commended AngloGold Ashanti for fulfilling its promises in the Socio-Economic Development Plan.
