France and Atlético Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33.
Griezmann made the announcement on social media on Monday (30 September), stating, “It is with a heart full of memories that I close this chapter of my life. Thank you for this magnificent tricolour adventure and see you soon.”
Reflecting on his decade-long journey, he added, “After 10 incredible years marked by challenges, successes and unforgettable moments, it is time for me to turn a page and make way for the new generation. Wearing this jersey was an honour and a privilege.”

His decision comes just ahead of France’s upcoming international fixtures in October, where they are set to face Israel and Belgium in the UEFA Nations League.
A key figure under manager Didier Deschamps since making his debut in 2014, Griezmann earned 137 caps for Les Bleus, netting 44 goals.
He played a crucial role in helping France lift their second FIFA World Cup title in 2018, scoring in the final as they beat Croatia 4-2 in Moscow. Griezmann was also instrumental in France’s 2021 Nations League triumph.
The forward’s individual accolades include finishing as top scorer at Euro 2016 with six goals, although France fell short in the final, losing to Portugal.
He also featured in the 2022 World Cup final, where France were beaten by Argentina in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 3-3 draw.
The forward’s final appearance for France came earlier this month when he came off the bench in a 2-0 victory over Belgium.
