The Pakistani star breaks Olympic javelin record, ending 32-year medal drought for Pakistan
Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan has etched his name into Olympic folklore, breaking the men’s javelin throw Olympic record and securing his country’s first-ever track and field gold medal.
The 27-year-old produced a breathtaking performance at the Stade de France on Thursday (8 August), sending the spear an astonishing 92.97m.
This surpassed the previous Olympic record of 90.57m, held by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen since the 2008 Beijing Games.
Nadeem’s triumph marks a historic moment for Pakistan, ending a 32-year medal drought since the men’s hockey team’s bronze at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984.
India’s Neeraj Chopra claimed silver with a season’s best of 89.45m, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters’ 88.54m secured bronze.
Kenya’s Julius Yego and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago also threw their season-best 87.72m and 86.16m to place fifth and seventh, respectively.
The Pakistani star, who won silver at the 2023 World Championships, produced a performance that will be remembered for years to come.
