Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Kwaku Apratwum Sarpong has been re-elected parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asante Mampong.
Sarpong emerged victorious with 555 votes, defeating his main opponent and former Ashanti Regional Communications Director Dennis Kwakwa who secured 167.
The results were announced after 727 out of 761 delegates from 140 polling stations across 33 electoral areas, cast their ballots on Saturday (17 February) in the election supervised by the Electoral Commission.
This victory positions Kwaku Apratwum-Sarpong as the party’s candidate for the Asante Mampong Constituency in the general elections. The NPP supporters will now rally behind Sarpong, hoping that he will lead the party to success in the constituency.
The primary had faced legal challenges in the past, with dissatisfied party members seeking redress through the courts. However, the recent dismissal of an interlocutory injunction by the Court of Appeal paved the way for the primaries to proceed.
