Ashaiman: We’ve arrested suspected murderers of soldier, police say

The Ghana Police Service has said it has arrested key suspects in the murder of a soldier Sheriff Imoro in Ashaiman.

Imoro, who was originally stationed in Sunyani, was in Accra for a military course and in the last three weeks, had been visiting his parents in their home at Ashaiman every Friday.

It was during one of his visits that he was reportedly confronted by a gang who killed him.

In a statement on Friday (10 March), the police said key suspects have been arrested after an intelligence-led operations.

“The police after a week of sustained intelligence-led operation have arrested the key suspects involved in the murder of Imoro Sherrif, the soldier who was found dead at Taifa Ashiaman on 4th March, 2023,” the statement said.

“Full details of the arrests made by the police on Thursday, 9th March and at dawn today, 10th March 2023, within Ashaiman and its environs follow.”

Amnesty International Ghana has called for an independent probe into military brutalities on civilians in Ashaiman last Tuesday.

Military personnel besieged the notorious town Tuesday dawn following the killing of 21-year-old Imoro, a trumpeter of the Ghana Armed Forces.
