Ashanti Region: Police on manhunt for killers of 21-year-old woman

The tragic incident occurred when a tricycle rider picked up Lydia Ayampali along with two other passengers in Kenyase-Abrem immediately after the 31 Night Church Service

Police in the Ashanti Region are on the hunt for the perpetrators responsible for the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old woman who attended a 31st Night Church Service.

The tragic incident occurred when a tricycle rider picked up Lydia Ayampali along with two other passengers in Kenyase-Abrem immediately after the service.

Reports indicate that the young woman was shot in the head during the journey, prompting an urgent trip to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

She was later pronounced dead by doctors.

The tricycle rider who gave his name as Abubakar recounted the harrowing scene to Asaase News stating, “It was around 12:40 am there about when the suspect was seen firing indiscriminately on the streets. And so, when I picked up the three passengers including the deceased, I moved towards the same vicinity where the suspect, brandishing his gun fired into the motorcycle hitting the deceased in the head.”

“I immediately stopped and saw the deceased bleeding profusely in the back seat. We quickly rushed her to a nearby hospital, but we were referred to the Manhyia Government Hospital. The medical team who felt overwhelmed with the situation later referred us to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where she was pronounced dead”.

The incident which occurred in the Kwabre East Municipal left residents in shock as they mount calls for justice. Family members requested some privacy when reporters visited.

Local police have taken statements from family members and other persons of interest including the tricycle rider. They are yet to provide an official statement about the matter.
