Ashanti Region: Policeman, wife and four-month-old child burnt to death

Attached to the anti-robbery unit of the police service, Sergeant Baafi was trapped together with his family in the domestic fire incident and died on the spot

A domestic fire incident late Sunday night (15 January) has killed a 35-year-old policeman Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, his wife and their four-month-old child in Apromase in the Ejisu municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Attached to the anti-robbery unit of the police service in the Ashanti Region, Sergeant Baafi was trapped together with his family in the fire, which engulfed their apartment and killed them on the spot.

Eyewitnesses told Asaase News that about five houses were destroyed in Sunday’s fire incident at the police quarters where the officer was residing with his family.

In the attached audio clip below, one of the victims, whose apartment was also destroyed in the process, narrates what happened.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare is on his way to the scene to assess the situation and to commiserate with the deceased families.
