Bawumia 2024: Mireku Duker appointed campaign co-ordinator for mining communities
The appointment is based on his extensive experience and deep understanding of the sector coupled with his strategic relationship with miners
The deputy minister of lands and natural resources, George Mireku Duker, has been appointed the campaign co-ordinator for all mining communities by the campaign team of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the lead-up to the 2024 general election.
The appointment reflects Mireku Dukerās extensive experience and deep understanding of the mining sector, coupled with his strategic relationship with miners and his record of advocating responsible mining.
His primary responsibilities include co-ordinating campaign activities for Team Bawumia in mining areas, developing strategic messaging and ensuring electoral success for the NPP campaign in Ghanaās mining communities.
A letter signed by the vice-chairman of the Bawumia for President Campaign, Fred Oware, said Mireku Dukerās main task will be to articulate the governmentās achievements in the mining industry over the past eight years and to map out strategies to enable the NPP to win decisively in mining areas.

About George Mireku Duker
George Mireku Duker is an oil, gas and mining governance expert with a background in finance. His first degree was in accounting. He holds a Masterās degree in oil and gas management from the University of Plymouth and has also to his merit an executive certificate in oil, gas and mining governance from Oxford University.
He is very conversant with land protection, land reclamation and environmental protection concepts.
Honourable George Mireku Duker has held various management positions both in the public and in the private sectors.
He worked as the programme director for various advocacy groups, including the Civil Society Platform on Oil and Gas Ghana, hosted by the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC), covering a wide range of matters relating to petroleum management and mining governance.
Mireku Duker has served on various platforms. He was previously chairman of the board of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) and also served during the seventh parliament as the vice-chair of the parliamentary select committee on mines and energy.
He has considerable experience in the workings of government and has worked as the special assistant under two different ministers at the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, later becoming a local representative of the president of Ghana as the municipal chief executive (mayor) of Tarkwa during President Kufuorās tenure.
He has also provided technical support to the Millennium Development Authority (MIDA) in Ghana and was part of a team responsible for the evaluation of the consultants proposed for the MIDA project.
Duker has considerable experience in natural resource governance and holds various certificates in the fields of energy and mining policy from the International Human Resource Development Corporation (IHRDC).āØHe is currently the deputy minister in charge of mines at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
