Bawumia sponsors five-year-old Priscilla, a cured leper, for medical treatment in Italy

The Vice-President of the Republic, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has paid the full medical bill for Priscilla, a cured leper who is five years old, so that she can continue the care for her leprosy in Italy.
Priscilla, who currently stays at the Weija Leprosarium, leaves Accra for Italy tomorrow (Tuesday 30 July 2024) for a medical procedure on her amputated leg after many unsuccessful operations in Ghana.
Reverend Father Campbell, the director of the Weija Leprosarium and former parish priest of Christ the King Catholic Church in Cantonments, brought Priscilla under his care at the institution when he learned about how she had been abandoned by her parents as a child with leprosy.
The presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party, who happens to be a patron of Lepers Aid Ghana, met Priscilla and instantly took a liking to her.
With virtually no treatment options for Priscilla in Ghana, Vice-President Bawumia offered to sponsor her medical treatment at the largest children’s hospital in the Italian capital, Rome.
Dr Bawumia has expressed his gratitude to the Italian ambassador and the staff of the Italian embassy in Acca for their efforts and assistance in facilitating Priscilla’s trip abroad.
“Let’s remember little Priscilla in our prayers and wish her a successful medical procedure in the days ahead,” Bawumia said, as he met Father Campbell, Priscilla and the other staff at the Weija Leprosarium.
