Black Starlets plot Benin domination in WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations

The Black Starlets warped up their final training session on Monday (20 May) ahead of their clash with Benin

Ghana U-17 coach Laryea Kingston has revealed his Black Starlets team’s plan to secure a dominant victory against Benin in their WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations encounter on Tuesday (21 May).

Speaking after the Black Starlets’ final training session on Monday (20 May), Kingston emphasised the team’s desire to maintain a perfect record in the competition.

“We have a good plan and hopefully it works against them,” Kingston said. “Complacent? I don’t think it’s in our dictionary. For us, we have respect for everything. The boys want to keep a 100% record. So, we approach every game with all seriousness.”

The former Ghana winger highlighted his desire to see a more dominant performance from the Black Starlets compared to their 5-1 opening day win over Côte d’Ivoire.

“I wasn’t happy because we did not dominate throughout,” he said. “Our style is to dominate every opponent, squeeze them [and] close down spaces so you don’t have the ball. Against Côte d’Ivoire, I don’t see that.”

“I think we’ve done a lot of post-mortem. We watched the game and there are places that we need to improve,” Kingston continued. “There are places that we need to focus on, which we’ve done throughout our training sessions.”

The Black Starlets will face Benin at 4pm at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
