The Black Starlets will begin their campaign in the WAFU Zone B u 17 Cup of Nations against Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday (15 May) at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations is scheduled for the University of Ghana Stadium from May 15-29, 2024.
Champions Nigeria will square off with Burkina Faso on Thursday, (15 May) before Togo takes on Niger on Matchday Two.
The finalist will book their ticket to the next edition of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Starlets will go into the tournament on the back of a UEFA under-16 invitational tournament in Russia last month. They lost their opening game to Russia but bounced back to win their next two games by a 10-2 aggregate score line. They beat Kazakhstan 5 nil and followed up with another with the same scoreline.
The Head coach of the Black Satellite Laryea Kingston says participating in that competition has given him a good perspective of coaching in other parts of the world.
“ I think it was a very good experience for me as coach to understand every part of the world the way they play, the mindset of the coaches and all that.”
So the takeaway has been very positive, we had a first loss since the technical team took over, it was very shocking for us but for me the next game against Serbia we learnt from our mistakes and they came out playing very well.”
“Even against Russia the team played very well, we were in the tournament with 20 players out of the 20 only three have had the experience of being on the flight. So about 17 of them have never experienced flying before.”
