Black Stars head coach search committee submits report to GFA

The executive committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will now review the committee's recommendations and decide on the next Black Stars coach

The quest for a new head coach for Ghana’s senior national men’s football team, the Black Stars, took a significant step forward as the five-man committee entrusted with the task submitted their report to president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Simeon-Okraku on Tuesday (27 February).

Chaired by GFA vice-president Mark Addo, the committee, comprised of Banker Kojo Addae Mensah, Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, technical director of the GFA, Ghana Football Legend Opoku Nti, and William Kartey, chief director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS), diligently carried out their duties within the stipulated three-week timeframe.

Their primary objective was to identify a suitable successor to the sacked Head Coach, Chris Hughton, and present their recommendations to the GFA Executive Council for final approval.

The GFA previously emphasised several key attributes deemed essential for the role. These include:

  1. The potential head coach should be a proven winner in coaching Top Men’s National Team or Club Football
  2. Must have a football philosophy that aligns or compliments our DNA
  3. Must hold the highest football license in the world with over 15 years coaching experience
  4. Proven track record in team reconstruction, organisation, and development of young talent
  5. Proven disciplinarian, tactician, and leadership skills

With the committee’s report now in the hands of the Executive Council, the next step will see the council review the recommendations from the search committee and decide on the next Black Stars coach. Once the coaching decision is resolved, the FA will engage with the MoYS, as well as other key stakeholders, for their support.
