Bono Region: DVLA introduces new prefix number plate “BR”

According to the regional manager of DVLA, George Okyere, all newly registered vehicles in the region will bear a "BR" number plate instead of the BA

The Bono Regional Office of the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) says it has changed its vehicle registration number prefix from ”BA” to ”BR”.

According to the regional manager of DVLA, George Okyere, in an interview with Asaase News, all newly registered vehicles in the region will bear a “BR” number plate instead of the “BA”.

George Okyere said the Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene, played an instrumental role in the change, as it was through her request that the BA be changed to BR and approved by the DVLA in December 2023.

“Last year, 2023, we had our national mid-year conference here in Sunyani and the regional minister, Justina Owusu Banahene, requested from the DVLA board and the management of DVLA that since the region has been divided into three, she preferred that the BA prefix be changed to BR to reflect the region.”

“So after that, we all worked hand in hand to make sure that this came to fruition. Later last year, in December 2023 the new prefix was given by the board and management of DVLA,” Okyere said.

He indicated that so far, over 200 vehicles have been registered with the new BR number prefix.

“So far, we have registered over 200 vehicles and this is still ongoing. We are doing our best to serve the Bono people, my team and I are doing well to make sure we serve them better,” said Okyere.

He urged drivers to always obey road regulations and go by the road signs. On electronic vehicle registration, George Okyere said the process remains essential in helping to check and bring sanity into the vehicle registration systems.

Since the carving out of the Ahafo and Bono East Regions from the old Brong Ahafo Region some years ago, vehicles in the Bono region were still using the vehicle registration number prefix “BA”. This necessitated the introduction of the new vehicle registration number prefix “BR” to reflect the region.
