Bono Region: Parliamentary aspirant vows to capture Wenchi seat from NDC

The Wenchi constituency is one of the most competitive primaries among the six orphan constituencies in the Bono Region

An aspiring NPP parliamentary candidate for the Wenchi constituency in the Bono Region, Albert Ameyaw, is optimistic that he can help the party to capture the seat from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) if he gets the nod of the delegates in the primaries.

Speaking in an interview with Asaase News after filing his nomination to contest for the second time, Ameyaw, affectionately called “The Messenger” said, the Wenchi constituency has been starved of developmental projects under an NDC MP.

NDC’s Seidu Haruna broke NPP’s 16 years retention of the Wenchi seat with 26,068 votes while NPP’s Prof George Yaw Djan-Baffour had 23,102 votes in 2020.

Ameyaw filed his nomination form on Thursday (10 August), with the hope of leading the NPP to recapture the Wenchi seat.

Hundreds of party supporters massed up at his residence in Wenchi before walking through the principal streets to the Wenchi traditional council where the kingmakers pledged their support to him.

Give me the mandate to lead

“I can confidently say that, by the grace of God when delegates give me the mandate I will recapture the Wenchi seat for the New Patriotic Party and I have hope, delegate would vote massively for me,” said Ameyaw.

Ameyaw therefore urged delegates to vote for him during the primaries to bring the much-needed development to the constituency.

The Wenchi chairman of the NPP, Ali Awudu, has called for a clean campaign among the contestants.

“The aspirants should do a clean campaign devoid of insults. We have to also unite to recapture the seat from the NDC,” Awudu said.
