Bono Region: Police allegedly beat suspect to death

The 48-year-old Abu Bukari Bahala was arrested, severely beaten to death by the police and was secretly buried at the cemetery

The police at Seikwa in the Tain District of the Bono Region have been accused of beating a suspect to a pulp leading to his death.

According to relatives of the deceased, Abu Bukari Bahala was secretly buried by the law enforcement agents immediately after his death.

Abdul Raman, a family member, told Asaase News, Bahala was arrested after allegedly hurling stones at the windscreen of a vehicle belonging to a bank manager at Seikwa.

The 48-year-old, according to family members, was allegedly buried at night at the Seikwa cemetery when he died at the hands of the police.

Eyewitnesses said the police were forced to exhume the body after some irate youth threatened to vandalise the police station.

Raman is therefore calling on the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, to investigate the issue.

The Crime Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, DSP Kennedy Adu-Sei, said the case is yet to come to their attention.
