Commonwealth Games: Ghana on course to win a first medal in boxing, Abeiku Jackson misses out on 100m Butterfly finals
After day five of the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Ghana is on course to win its first set of medals in boxing.
Boxers Joseph Commey and Abdul Omar Wahib have reached the quarterfinals stage in Boxing.
Unfortunately, boxer Samuel Yaw Addo couldn’t make it as he lost to Clepson Antonio of Great Britain in Round 16 of the 48-51kg category.
In swimming, Abeiku Jackson who reached the semifinals of the Men’s 100 meters Butterfly in the early hours of Monday failed to make the finals as he came 6th in the semis.
Pop star turned swimmer Cody Simpson has continued his incredible Commonwealth Games by qualifying for the 100m butterfly final.
Simpson finished behind South African champion Chad le Clos in his semi-final, but will head into tomorrow night’s final as the fifth-fastest qualifier.
In the women’s 100m Freestyle Unilez Takyi came last in Heat 2.
In other events, Ghana’s female hockey team lost 4-0 to Wales whiles the male team painfully drew 1-1 with Canada. The Canadians equalized with just a minute to end the game.
Bismark Yartey failed to make the Judo (Men-66Kg as he was eliminated in the round of 16. In the same sport but the men’s 60KG Elimination Round of 16, Sandor Abdullah Iddriss lost to Ashley Mckenzie of the United Kingdom
