More than 200 students have graduated at the 3rd congregation of the Gambaga College of Education in the East Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.
A total of 241 students, comprising 154 males and 87 females, graduated with a Bachelor of Education in the Junior High Education and the Primary Education programmes, respectively.
Addressing the graduands at the ceremony, the principal of the college, Kassim Korah Nantomah, appealed to the government to convert the college into a full university by supporting it with infrastructure development.
“One other request that I know will be of interest to the people of the North East Region is the conversion of Gambaga College of Education to a full-fledged university,” Nantomah said.
“The people of the North East Region need a university to bring higher education to the doorstep of the teeming youth graduating from the laudable free senior high education policy,” he added.
For his part, the North East regional minister, Yidana Zakaria, urged the graduates to accept postings to the region to boost teaching and learning.
In the junior high education programme, three students had first-class honours; 86 students also obtained second-class honours (Upper Division); eight others bagged second-class honours (Lower Division); 19 students grabbed third class while one other received a pass in bachelor of education.
However, in the primary education programme 16 students bagged second-class (Upper Division) and second-class honours (Lower Division). Twenty students came out with a third-class in the bachelor of education.
