Disregard video of “ballot box stuffing in Ejisu by-election”, says EC

A statement issued by the Electoral Commission on Thursday (2 May) said that the video has nothing to do with the Electoral Commission of Ghana

The Electoral Commission (EC) has dismissed reports suggesting there was ballot stuffing in the just-ended by-election in Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.

The dismissal is in reference to a viral video on social media, depicting a man stuffing a ballot box with papers at a polling station.

A statement issued by the Electoral Commission of Ghana on Thursday (2 May) said the video has nothing to do with the Electoral Commission.

“The attention of the Electoral Commission has been drawn to a video circulating on social media depicting a polling station in an electoral area. The video shows a man stuffing ballot papers into a ballot box.

“The Commission wishes to state that the said video has nothing to do with the operations of Ghana’s Electoral Commission, let alone the Ejisu by-election.

“We urge the public to disregard the video. It is aimed at tarnishing the image and credibility of Ghana’s Electoral Commission.

“The events in the video did not occur in Ghana. It has nothing to do with the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

“In this era of misinformation and disinformation, we entreat the public to cross-check information with the Commission to ascertain the truth,” the statement from the EC said.
