Dramani Payida: It’s challenging mentoring young people

The event organiser says he is willing to teach young ones who are ready to take over the industry

Event organiser, Dramani Payida, has said he finds it challenging to mentor young people to take charge of the event organising industry.

“I have been looking for people to take over, but it’s been challenging because you have a certain vision that you want to execute, but a lot of the younger people coming up they are more interested in influencing,” Payida told Caroline Sampson on Asaase Radio’s Café 995 on Thursday (27 October).

“So, I always end up getting into a big fight with whoever is stressing me in my execution. Doing an event is not easy,” he added. “So, put your phone down and let’s actually do the work.”

“You don’t have to have a good time organising an event. If you want to have a good time, go to somebody else’s organised event and have a good time. This is all I ask of them, but it’s been a challenge,” Payida added.

Ready to teach

“But still I am actually ready to mentor and teach people certain roles. Nobody gave me this information but I’m ready to share it with those who are now coming up in the industry,” he said.

Payida added: “But there are some young people doing a very good job. There are a few people and they are all necessary for the industry.

“I am very open, I am very open to constructive criticisms. If you feel there’s something you can add on to my events or something I am doing wrong or you even want to be a sponsor, you can just reach out to me.”
