Eastern Region: Okyenhene’s silver jubilee launched

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin succeeded his uncle Osagyefuo Kuntunkunuku in 1999, becoming the 35th chief of Akyem Abuakwa

The celebration of the silver jubilee of Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin’s accession to the Ofori Panin Stool has begun in Kyebi in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, with a call on authorities to view leadership as the most fundamental and critical aspect of all endeavours.

The 26-member anniversary committee is chaired by Osiewuohene Dasebere Asumadu Nyarko Appiah, who is also the chief of Akyem Wunchie.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin succeeded his uncle Osagyefuo Kuntunkunuku in 1999, becoming the 35th chief of Akyem Abuakwa.

Speaking at the launch, the Okyeman Twafohene, Okatakyie Boakye Danquah, said that leadership is the transformative essence in terms of ideas, experience, practice, endurance and innovation.

Outlining some of his achievements during his reign, Okatakyie Boakye Danquah stated that, under the leadership of Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori-Panin, ten basic education schools have been established in ten locations within Okyeman to complement the government’s effort in education.

Okatakyie Boakye Danquah said, “Under his leadership, 10 basic education christened Amoatia Ofori Panin Model Schools have been established in 10 locations within Okyeman to complement the efforts of the government in the education sector.”

He added that secondary and higher education have also had their share over the last two and half decades.

He disclosed that the Okyenhene also had to step in, often in the necessary deviation from outmoded cultural limitations, to address the HIV menace and teenage pregnancy in various communities.

He described Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin as a gem whose exemplary leadership needed to be applauded and celebrated, hence the theme for the celebration, “Sustainable Leadership and Service to Humanity”.

“Osagyefuo, in his twenty-five-year journey, has bequeathed a legacy unmatched in the annals of traditional leadership specifically to meet the demands of modernity,” Katakyie Boakye Danquah said.

Activities lined up for the silver jubilee celebration include divisional durbars, tree planting exercises, Asona family reunion, football gala, Okyeman Congress and Awards Night, golf tournament, fun and food Fair, children’s party, mega musical concert and non-denominational thanksgiving service.
