Eastern Region: One dies, 13 injured in separate road crashes

A 10-year-old boy has died when a car rammed into a group of six people on Sunday (17 April) after veering off the road at a suburb called Christian Quarters at Abetifi in the Eastern Region, the police have confirmed to Asaase News.

Emmanuel Atta Serebour’s twin brother, another brother, cousin and two others sustained injuries and were treated at the Abetifi Health Center.

The head of the accident squad unit of the Abetifi Police Station, Inspector Ohene Mante said the driver of the vehicle Charles Appiah has been arrested and assisting the police in investigations.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, at least eight individuals have sustained injuries in a road crash at the Atibie section of the Kwahu mountains on Sunday (17 April), the police have confirmed.

The driver of the mini bus heading towards Nkawkaw with 20 passengers on board lost control while descending the mountain and crashed at the edge of the road.

The Eastern regional police spokesperson DSP Ebenezer Tetteh said the injured passengers have been rushed to the Holy Family Hospital, Nkawkaw for treatment.

“The police visited the said hospital and met eight victims comprising two females and six males including the suspect driver at the emergency ward receiving treatment,” a report from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) said.

We will ensure incident-free Easter

The Ghana Police ServiceĀ has served notice that it has instituted robust security measures to ensure the safety of citizens across the country during theĀ 2022 Easter celebrations.

According to the police, the measures are geared toward achieving an incident-free festive period.

ā€œAll regional commands, with the support of the national operations, theĀ MTTDĀ and the Police Intelligence Directorate are working to ensure that all persons who are travelling for celebrations do so in safety. We shall also ensure that all events organised in various communities are secured and incident-free,ā€ the police said in a statement.

The police further indicated that additional security arrangements have been made for the celebrations in theĀ KwahuĀ area to cover the paragliding event and other traditional Easter activities in Kwahu.
