A prison officer, identified as Lance Corporal Paul Badu, has lost his life after complaining of feeling dizzy during rehearsals at Koforidua Prison Park for the 67th Independence Day parade.
This year’s 6 March national parade is scheduled to take place in Koforidua.
According to reports, Lance Corporal Badu was rushed to the prisons clinic to receive initial treatment.
However, in view of the severity of his condition, he was transferred to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
Aneurysm
Hospital sources said that Lance Corporal Paul Badu suffered a ruptured aneurysm, probably caused by high blood pressure.
The 40-year-old officer, who joined the Prisons Service in 2018, left behind a wife and two young children.
The death of Lance Corporal Badu has shocked the entire prisons community.
The management of Koforidua Prison have put in place measures to monitor the blood pressure of officers taking part in Independence Day parade rehearsals, to ensure that their health and well-being are given top priority.
