Election 2020: NPP winning by 56%, says KTU Research Centre
President Nana Akufo-Addo is winning the 2020 elections with a vote share of 56.6%, according to a study by the Institute of Research, Innovation and Development
The Institute of Research, Innovation and Development (IRID) of Kumasi Technical University (KTU) is predicting a 56.6% victory for President Akufo-Addo in the 7 December elections.
According to its findings, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will lose badly, obtaining a meagre 33.8% of the votes.
The findings said 70.9% of respondents said that the Free SHS education programme is one of the reasons why they will be voting this year, while 33% of respondents said they will vote based on the NPP’s achievement in the roads sector.
About 29.1% said they will vote because of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFFJ) initiative of the Akufo-Addo government. Other reasons given were corruption (28.5%), electricity (28.5%), unemployment (27.3%), free water (25.5%) and health issues (22.8%).
NDC to win majority votes in seven regions
The researchers further found that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is most likely to win majority votes in seven regions – Northern, Oti, Savanah, Upper East, Upper West, Volta and Western North.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the other hand will win seven regions: Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Central, Eastern, North-East and Western.
The researchers said that the remaining two regions – Bono East and Greater Accra – are still up for grabs by any of the two leading parties.
“Overall, the NPP is most likely to secure a one-touch victory with a minimum of 51.4% (+0.9) with the NDC coming second with a maximum of 47.1% (-0.1),” the research findings said.
