Ending HIV/AIDS by 2030 is now reachable goal, says UN deputy secretary general

In 2022, approximately 39 million individuals were living with HIV, including around 1.5 million children aged 0 to 14

The deputy secretary general of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed has said ending AIDS by 2030 is now a reachable goal.
She was speaking at the UN General Assembly’s annual review of HIV/AIDS in New York on Wednesday (19 June).
She stated, “Globally, more than three-quarters of those living with HIV are receiving life-saving treatment — almost 30 million people…That puts us on track to achieve our global goal of ending AIDS as a public health  threat by 2030…a destination which is now in sight.”
In 2022, approximately 39 million individuals were living with HIV, including around 1.5 million children aged 0 to 14. Nevertheless, Amina Mohammed has encouraged that the end of AIDS is in sight.

Access to antiretroviral therapy has expanded massively across sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Pacific — which together are home to more than 80% of people living with HIV.

These are among the greatest public health achievements of recent times. If this progress is maintained, we are on track to reach a major global milestone next year: 34 million people receiving HIV treatment.
