Esports to take centre stage at All Regional Games

Esports is set to take centre stage alongside traditional athletics at the inaugural All Regional Games, a new multi-sport event aimed at unearthing talent across the country.
The inclusion of esports reflects the sport’s phenomenal growth in recent years, with Ghanaian gamers achieving continental success.
Luqman Abubakar Suhuyini, better known by his handle “BABYFOX,”Ā serves as a prime example.
Suhuyini clinched the top prize in the Mortal Kombat 1 tournament at GamrX, one of Africa’s biggest gaming festivals, held in Nigeria back in May.
Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan spoke about the sport’s development and its inclusion in the Games during an exclusive interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show (ABS) on Tuesday (25 June).
“That was also my decision [to include esports],” Gyan said. “They’re making waves and they also want to be recognised. I will say they were the first people to even contact us to make sure they collaborated…”
Gyan went on to highlight the immense potential within the Ghanaian esports scene, expressing his belief that the nation could one day produce a world champion.
“Esports is amazing. You go to different regions and you see people; theyāre into it; they even go international. You see people, somebody from maybe Alajo or Madina and you see his fans, and I was like, oh ok, let’s promote it … we can even have an African champion or world champion from Ghana.”
