The fire destroyed several items running into thousands of Ghana Cedis at the fish market, popularly known as Mpoben Market

The fish market at Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem Municipality of the Central Region has been razed down following a fire outbreak.

Several items worth thousands of Ghana Cedis were also destroyed at the fish market popularly known as Mpoben Market, one of the biggest hub for fish trading in the region.

Among the destroyed items are large quantities of fish, outboard motors, canoes, money, shops and adjoining structures.

Firefighters are yet to establish the cause of the incident. However, eyewitnesses said the fire emerged from a section of the market where some women were allegedly cooking when the naked fire came into contact with premix fuel in a canoe.
