Frafra triumph over Dagaaba in 27th friendly games

The games, which underline the promotion of peace between the two ethnic groups in Ghana, saw both sides parade male and female teams

The Frafra community reclaimed the annual Frafra-Dagaaba unity games title on Saturday (7 September) when they beat the Dagaabas at the El-wak Sports Stadium in Accra.

The 27th edition of the games, which signifies the promotion of peace between the two ethnic groups in Ghana, saw both sides parade male and female teams for the games, which included football, volleyball, a sack race, and tug-of-peace.

In the men’s football event, the Frafra’s came from a goal down to defeat the Dagaaba’s 3 -1 in a dominant game, but the Dagaaba women proved too strong for their Frafra counterparts, winning 1-0 earlier in the day.

In the volleyball competition, both men and women from the Frafras emerged victorious whilst the women’s event was won by the Dagaaba’s.

Frafra won both men’s and women’s sack races, with 18 points. The final event of the day tug-of-peace, was not a decider this time but Frafra confirmed their dominance on the day getting the better of Dagaaba.

In a colorful event, there were also displays of the rich cultural dances of both groups to the amusement of the jubilant fans from both groups that filled the venue to cheer their teams on.

Special guest, MP for Nandom, Upper West Region Ambrose Dery spoke on behalf of the NPP’s Presidential candidate for the 2024 Election Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who donated GHC 30,000 to the event.

“Dr, Bawumia admires the games and the association and the fact that the two ethnic groups have a warm relationship is beyond an amicable resolution.”- Ambrose Dery said.

“He has recommended the relationship to the rest of the country. All Ghanaians should relate to each other like Frafra’s and Dagaaba’s.”

He also emphasized that Dr, Bawumia is looking forward to a peace and cordial elections in December.
