“Ghana moving towards full digitalisation, not ‘Akonfem’ era” – Bawumia jabs Mahama
Addressing supporters after the "Ofie Mega Walk" in Akropong, Dr Bawumia said Ghana must move forward into the digital age and not backwards
Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has jabbed John Dramani Mahama, the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), labeling Mahama’s administration as the ‘akonfem’ era.
Addressing party supporters after the “Ofie Mega Walk” in Akropong, Eastern Region, on Saturday, 3 August 2024, Dr Bawumia pointed out that Ghana is moving into a digital age, and not back to the “akonfem” era.
Dr Bawumia outlined his plans to transform the country, including the introduction of a digitised system at customs to prevent corruption and streamline passport applications.
He highlighted the benefits of digitalisation, noting that it would make passport applications a seamless process. Dr Bawumia also took a jab at Mahama, suggesting that Mahama would only serve a single term and therefore wouldn’t be accountable to Ghanaians.
In contrast, Dr Bawumia said he is committed to serving two terms, and during the period of his service, he will ensure accountability and continuity.
He urged his supporters to vote for him, asserting that Ghana needs a leader with new ideas, integrity, and best practices to develop the nation.
“From the customs office, we’ll introduce the flat rate of duty and digit-ability to prevent corruption at the port for the development of the country. We are bringing more initiatives on board as we launch our manifesto in a few weeks to come. Because of digitalization, passport application is going to be a thing of the past.
“If you have your card, you don’t have to apply and fill out a form for a passport. We have all your details, so you’ll just pay the fee, and then we print your passport for you. This initiative will help the country to move into digitalisation,” Dr Bawumia said.
“Ghana is going into the digitalisation age, not the ‘akonfem ‘age. Vote for me so that we can also learn from the Europeans to develop our nation. We are bringing new policies. Do you think their flagbearer can be a president for just four years? He’s also seeking for honeymoon, meaning he won’t do anything.
“However, I want to be President for eight years meaning I’ll come back to make accountability after my first term. He [Mahama] won’t come back to make accountability Ghana needs a new president with new ideas with integrity” the Vice President and presidential candidate of the NPP added.
