Ghana ranks third globally with active social media users, says cyber security boss

The acting director-general of the Cyber Security Authority Albert Antwi-Boasiako says this will make Ghanaians more vulnerable online

Ghana has been ranked the third country with the active social media presence globally, the acting director-general of the Cyber Security Authority Albert Antwi-Boasiako has said.

Appearing on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (6 October), as part of this year’s cyber security awareness month in Ghana, Antwi-Boasiako said this will make Ghanaians more vulnerable online.

“Our citizens are quite active on social media, and statistics show that we are ranked the third country with active social media presence behind Nigeria and Philippines in the whole world.

“Averagely it’s about five hours daily in Ghana, but I wouldn’t want to look at it from the economic impact, whether it is positive or impacting on economic development,” he told the show host Benjamin Offei-Addo.

“You may be surprised, access to betting sites is one of them, also it is not very nice to say but even pornographic access is one of them,” he said.
