Ghana Tennis Federation unveils 13th African Games Team

The Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) has announced its roster for the upcoming 13th African Games, scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from 8-23 March, 2024.

Led by Frederick Egyir and Richard Ayi Dartey, captains of the Men’s and Women’s teams respectively, the Golden Rackets and the Diamond Rackets are geared up to surpass their earlier performances, having exited in the initial rounds during the 2019 edition held in Rabat, Morocco.

This year’s squads feature a blend of new talent and seasoned players. In the Men’s team, notable additions include Abraham Asaba, Samuel Antwi, and Lameck Bagerbaseh, while stalwarts like Herman Abban, Isaac Nortey, and Johnson Acquah make a return from the 2019 lineup.

Among the Women’s team, newcomers such as Ruth Crawford, Sisu Makena Tomegah, and Tracy Ampah join forces with Elizabeth Bagerbaseh, a participant in the 2019 African Games. However, familiar face Mariam Ibrahim is notably absent from this year’s team, as is Yvonne Tagoe.

Beyond clinching medals at the African Games, Ghana’s tennis contingent has set its sights on securing qualification for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.

However, the inclusion of foreign-based players is slated closer to the event, with a date set for 20 days before the commencement of the tennis competition, scheduled from 15-23 March, 2024.
