Ghana to host 2024 West Africa Badminton Championships
Ghana Badminton aims to build on recent U-19 success as top West African nations gather for the regional championship in Accra
Ghana is set to host the 2024 Region II West Africa Invitational Badminton Championships from Friday (13 September) to Sunday (15 September) at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.
The event will see top players from 12 West African nations, including Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Cabo Verde, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Senegal, Benin, Mali, Niger, Guinea-Bissau and hosts Ghana, competing for regional honours.
This marks a significant moment for Ghana Badminton, which has gained momentum following the Under-19 team’s impressive performance at the 2024 All Africa U19 & AirBadminton Championships in Senegal last month.
The U-19 Golden Shuttlers secured a series of victories at the championships, excelling in AirBadminton, the outdoor version of the sport. They clinched gold in the mixed team relay, men’s triple, and women’s triple categories of the format.
With their strong recent form, hopes are high that the national team will deliver another outstanding performance as they switch to the indoor format for the upcoming Region II Invitational.
The championships promise to be a thrilling showcase of skill and competition, highlighting the growth of badminton in West Africa and positioning Ghana as a key player on the continental stage.
