Ghanaian highlife legend Nana Ampadu dies at 76

The Ghanaian highlife legend Nana Ampadu has died at the age of 76, a family source has confirmed to www.asaaseradio.com.

The source said he passed away this morning (Tuesday, 28 September) at his residence in Akweteyman, Greater Accra.

Nana Ampadu was born on 31 March 1945 in Obo-Kwahu in the Eastern Region.

He is credited with numerous popular highlife tracks and is reported to have composed over 800 songs.

The brain behind the classic hit “Ɔman bo adwo” moved into the mainstream when he formed the African Brothers Band in 1963.

Ampadu’s style of music is loved by all, both children and adults.

He was well liked for a stream of great hits. They include “Ebi ti yie”, “Aku Sika”, “Kofi Nkrabea”, “Obiaa ba nnyɛ”, “Woyoo Woyoo”, “Mother”, “Mentumi ngyae wo”, “Agartha”, “Ayɛ Sɛ Yɛ Dɔ Wo”, “Ɔbra”, “Drivers”, “Anibere nnyɛ”, “Ɔman bo adwo” and “Kwaata”.

Tributes have started pouring in for the highlife legend.
