Ghanaian start-ups compete for US$750,000 Africa Start-up Initiative Programme

Leading Africa telecommunications company, Telecel Group is bringing its flagship social acceleration and investment programme, the Africa Start-up Initiative Programme (ASIP) powered by Start-up Bootcamp AfriTech to Ghana.

Many of the Ghanaian start-ups who have completed their applications to join Cohort II of the ASIP acceleration programme on Thursday pitched their innovative solutions to an experienced panel of judges and mentors.

Eleanor Azar, the executive deputy of Telecel Group stated that “the Telecel Group’s ASIP which is supported by angel investors and programme partners including AWS, Google, Microsoft, United Nations and many others will offer the top finalists the opportunity to benefit from approximately USD 750,000 earmarked in both cash and support.”

“… Telecel Group’s ASIP helps to develop new businesses across the continent by working with start-ups and early-stage companies to define their business strategy and secure funding,” she stated.

About 76 Ghanaian start-ups are set to compete for the acceleration and investment programme to boost their businesses.

According to Azar, the first cohort was highly successful and had a total of 2229 entries after which finalists from various African countries went on to pitch in the grand finale in Dakar, Senegal.

So far, a total of 1857 applications have been received for cohort II from across the continent with 76 applications from Ghana.
