Ghanaians to enjoy free medical screening on their date of birth, says NHIA CEO

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday, Dr Aboagye Da Costa said a committee working on the medical screening initiative is almost done with stakeholder engagements

Ghanaians can soon walk to any health facility to receive free medical check-ups on their birthday, the chief executive officer of the National Health Insurance Authority NHIA, Aboagye Da Costa, has announced.

The move is expected to revolutionise the health-care architecture by focusing more on preventive care by reducing non-communicable diseases in Ghana.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday (16 May), Dr Da Costa said the committee working on the medical initiative is almost done with stakeholder engagements.

“Now we are offering every Ghanaian the opportunity to go to any health facility on their date of birth or month of birth to at least check their vitals …

“We are almost done with the work and we will be starting very soon … We have really worked hard to ensure this intervention is actually implemented at the earliest possible time.

“So, we have even cut some of the processes that we use to make sure we implement this. The committee is at the tail end of doing the stakeholder engagements, then implementation will start.

“So, for me, that will be good news and it will revolutionise our health-care architecture in such a way that we will reduce some of these diseases and non-communicable diseases,” Dr Da Costa said.
