Ghana’s 4x100m relay team eyes Paris 2024 final
The African record-holders aim to make amends for early Tokyo 2020 exit
Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team will compete in heat two, lane four, of the first round at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games on Thursday (8 August).
The team of Joseph Paul Amoah, Isaac Botsio, Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu will face stiff competition from Liberia, Brazil, China, Canada, France, Jamaica, and Germany for one of three spots in the final.
Despite a challenging Olympics for Ghana so far, with early exits for high jumper Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah and swimmers Joselle Mensah and Harry Stacey, Saminu and Azamati reached the men’s 100m semi-finals, showcasing their talent.
The relay team also offers a glimmer of hope as their current world ranking puts them as the third-fastest team in their heat, behind Canada and China.
Their season-best (SB) time of 38.29 seconds at the 2024 World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas further underlines their potential.
Holders of the African Games men’s 4x100m record (38.30 seconds), the team will be eager to rectify their disappointing first-round exit at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
