Ghana’s cycling team for 13th African Games to be named on 23 February

The provisional team currently consists of 17 male and 13 female cyclists

Ghana gears up for the 13th African Games, slated to take place in Accra from 8–23 March 2024, with anticipation building around the unveiling of its cycling squad.

In an exclusive interview with Asaase Sports, Dennis Moore, the communication director of the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), disclosed that the much-awaited announcement is scheduled for Friday (23 February).

With the current roster consisting of 17 male and 13 female athletes undergoing intensive training in preparation for the continental showcase, the final squad will see a significant reduction to 12 males and 8 females.

Moore also explained the selection process for the team, indicating that the coaching staff will assess various factors to ensure the formation of a formidable team poised for medal success.

“The selection criteria of the national cycling team are based on the following: current performance, previous performance, discipline, ability of winning medals, ability to demonstrate that the presence of the selected cyclist will have a positive impact on the overall team performance and create a medal-capable team environment, and the capacity to advance to the level of medal capability in the near future.”
