The government has announced that plans are underway to evacuate Ghanaian nationals from Khartoum, Sudan, to Ethiopia.
The move follows a week of intense fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary, Rapid Support Forces, which has led to hundreds of casualties and has cut the capital, Khartoum, and other parts of Sudan from humanitarian support.
Several countries including the United States of America have evacuated their nationals from Sudan
A statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, however, assured that all Ghanaians in that country are safe.
According to the statement, the Ghana Embassy in Cairo, Egypt which has concurrent accreditation to Sudan, is working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration as well as the Honorary Consulate in Sudan to secure safe passage for Ghanaians to Ethiopia.
“Government wishes to assure the general public, in particular, the families and acquaintances of Ghanaians in Sudan that every effort is being made to ensure the safety of their loved ones until their arrival in Ghana,” the statement added.
