Green Ghana Day: Planting 52 million trees in four years incredible achievement, says Akufo-Addo
The government has allocated an amount of GHC1.5 million for this year’s edition of the Green Ghana Day event
President Akufo-Addo has said planting 52 million trees in four years under the Green Ghana Day initiative is an incredible achievement.
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the Green Ghana Day in Burma Camp in Accra Friday (7 June), President Akufo-Addo thanked Ghanaians for their participation and contribution to the success of the tree planting initiative.
“In the last three years with your unwavering support, we have planted some 42 million trees most of which are thriving. Today, we have the opportunity to add at least an additional 10 million trees bringing our total to 52 million trees in just four years. This is an incredible achievement,” he said.
The president said the theme for the fourth edition of Green Ghana Day initiative “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow” must inspire the whole country to participate in this national tree planting exercise.
He added that the initiative “captures the essence of our collective aspiration to nurture our environment for the benefit of future generation.
“It is a clarion call for us to live a greener, better and more prosperous world,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has revealed that an amount of GHC1.5 million was allocated by the government for this year’s edition of the Green Ghana Day.
About 10 million trees are expected to planted this year.
