GRIDCo to commence Strike on Wednesday

GRIDCo staff have announced that they would embark on their intended strike on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.  This GRIDCo strike according to their representative, Raphael Kornor, has become necessary due to inaction from their management.

A week ago, GRIDCo senior staff embarked on a demonstration to protest the outstanding payments crippling the organisation.  Various sections of the staff have held press conferences to address the debt situation.  According to the protesting group the equipment are old and need to be replaced to gain efficiency.

GRIDCo has been recording consecutive losses for the last three years totaling a net of GH¢114.3 million

According to GRIDCo, the Volta Aluminum Company Limited (VALCO) owes it 30-million dollars while Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Northern Electricity Distribution Company(NEDCo) also owed about 607 million cedis and 177 million cedis respectively.

The announced GRIDCo strike could have quite serious implications for power supply including Dumsor. An initial communication has indicated that power could be cut from 30 December 2019. The group however seemed to have reached a dead lock where they have not seen much action from management of GRIDCo.  They demanded that management either see to the recovery of those debts or raise money for their ailing operations.
