The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga has described the late former Aviation Minister and Member of Parliament for Navrongo, Joseph Kofi Adda, as someone who was committed to the development of Ghana and especially the Upper East Region.
Agalga said aside from the friendly and jovial nature of the late statesman, Adda was an astute political figure who deeply represented the interests of the people of the region and wanted to see it prosper.
He added that Adda was hardworking, affable and was open to all irrespective of political colour.
Speaking in an interview with Asaase News when he joined a delegation of the minority MPs to the burial service for Adda in Navrongo Saturday 12 February 2022, Agalga added that Adda’s passion to ensure the Upper East Region gets an airport when he was the aviation minister demonstrated his great leadership and love for his people.
“Kofi was somebody who represented the interests of all upper easterners very well. When he became minister for aviation, he was very passionate about getting us an airport. That was his passion and all of us are very passionate about having an airport because when you arrive in Tamale, you have to drive for two hours before you get to our region. We have to think that to link our region to the rest of the nation, we must have an airport and that was his passion.”
Agalga recalled a few beautiful memorable encounters he had with him, adding that Adda was someone from whom many of them – the younger northern MPs, drew inspiration.
“Apart from being a very hardworking MP, which you can’t take away from him, he was very jovial, very affable and he had an infectious smile and we discussed a number of issues in common even though he belonged to the NPP fraternity and I belonged to the NDC, he always saw me as his younger brother coming up. He encouraged and motivated me all the time.”
The Builsa North MP said the circumstances of his death was very troubling. He, however, said that those of them who are still alive and in leadership positions would continue to fight to ensure that dreams he had for the Upper East Region come to fruition.
“His passion was to have an airport in the region. But that passion didn’t materialize. So, those of us left behind will continue to fight to ensure that and other things he fought for the region come to fruition.”
Agalga extended his condolences to his family, chiefs and people of Navrongo.
Notable among the minority MPs delegation were James Agalga, Thomas Dalu, MP for Chiana-Paga, Sampson Tangombu Chiragia, MP for Navrongo central and Dominic Ayine MP for Bolga East. The minor MPs made a combined donation of GHC5, 000.
The burial service also had in attendance ministers of state and other government appointees. There were also members of the clergy, senior military and police officers and senior members of the judiciary service.
