Wontumi regrets being misunderstood – under attack NPP regional chairman explains his “insults”

The Ashanti Regional chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), says his comments about the opposition running mate have been misquoted

Ashanti Region Chairman of ruling New Patriotic Party, (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has come under attack from all sides for unsavory comments made by him against the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket in the upcoming December 2020 polls.

Chairman Wontumi, in a radio interview on Kumasi’s Wontumi FM (101.3) that has gone viral, is heard saying that the Presidential Candidate of the NDC, John Mahama, chose his former Education Minister, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, as his running mate because the former president is looking for a partner with whom to allegedly misappropriate State funds should they get elected.

In the interview he could also be heard making uncomplimentary comments about Mrs Opoku Agyemang’s physical appearance.

However, in a subsequent interview with Asaase Radio 99.5 MHz, Chairman Wontumi, known for his blunt style of political communication, expressed regret, arguing that his words had been grossly misunderstood.
“I have been misunderstood. Also, some people have conveniently taken what I said out of context. I did not attack the personality of the NDC running mate,” he insisted.
“What I said was that the NDC has brought a female professor so they can hide behind her to cover the corruption associated with their party, and presidential candidate,” the Ashanti Region Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako said.

“I have nothing against her. But I have everything against her politics. I don’t want to believe that anyone is saying that when men make mistakes, we are at liberty to talk about it, however, when a woman makes a mistake, no one is allowed to talk about it,” Chairman Wontumi quizzed.

He further explained that the NDC was deceiving themselves into believing that “they could hide all their flaws behind the nomination” of Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, who is considered an accomplished educationist.

Chairman Wontumi, whiles admitting that his style of communicating may not be to everybody’s taste, was still insisting that he would continue to remind Ghanaians that the John Mahama NDC that the people rejected in 2016 has not changed one bit.
Chairman Wontumi went on to warn the NDC that the NPP in the 2020 campaign, will leave no stone un-turned to let the people of Ghana know that his party, NPP, will better manage the country under an Akufo-Addo, Bawumia Presidency as compared to an NDC administration.
