NPP youth group from the Janga zone in Walewale of the North East Region is urging the national leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure that Mahama Tia Abdul Kabiru, the technical advisor at the Office of the Vice-President, is treated fairly in order for the party to win the upcoming general elections on 7December.
Following the primaries in January 2024, the EC declared Mahama Tia Abdul Kabiru the winner but Hajia Lariba Abudu Zuwera, who received 338 votes, disagreed with the election results and filed a suit at the Tamale High Court to seek justice.
In this regard, majority of the NPP members in Walewale are unhappy with the conduct of the incumbent MP and are calling on her to accept the results for the unity of the party.
The group is therefore urging the leadership of the party at the national level and the vice-president to treat the winner of the elections, Mahama Tia Abdul Kabiru with fairness to resolve the matter.
Abdul Karim Yahaya Iddi, in a press conference organised by the Janga zone NPP youth, on Friday (12 July 2024) said, “If we fail to ensure fairness for KB Mahama, we risk facing unforeseen outcomes at the polls. Let us embrace the wisdom of unity and reconcile our differences, lest we suffer the bitter taste of defeat, the ridicule of our opponents, and the disillusionment of our loyal supporters.”
Yahaya Iddi added: “We, the youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Janga zone of the Walewale constituency are expressing our concern and disappointment over the party’s failure to address issues arising from the 27 January 2024 primaries.”
“We urge the party leadership, including the Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, to take immediate action to resolve these issues and maintain unity and cohesion within the party,” the statement said.
