PHOTOS: Ejisu united in grief for late MP’s one-week memorial
The 45-year-old lawmaker died on 7 March 2024 after battling a short illness
Residents in the Ashanti Region town of Ejisu have been united in grief as they try to come to terms with the passing of their late MP John Kumah.
The 45-year-old lawmaker died on 7 March 2024 after battling a short illness. The Onwe M/A School Park on Thursday hosted thousands of people, including known faces from the political divide, for the one-week memorial.
The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Works and Housing Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patritic Party Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and Energy Minister Dr Matthew Opoku are among the dignitaries present at the event.
Lawyer John Kumah until his death served as Deputy Finance Minister under the Akufo-Addo administration. His immediate boss and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been eulogising his colleague describing him as a “dynamic young man, very passionate about the youth”.
“It came as a great shock and surprise when it occurred because as a minister who had worked with him since 2021, it is just one of those events you don’t expect to happen. Certainly, we are aware of the health challenges in which we were helping but we never thought it would come to this. So, it is difficult to even today accept that John is no more”, Ofori-Atta told Asaase News’ Bright Yeboah in an exclusive interview.
