Joseph Amoah storms to victory at Morgan State University Track Meet

Amoah, representing ASICS, initially placed second in the prelims behind fellow Ghanaian Solomon Hammond, competing for Coppin State University

Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Amoah has kicked off his 2024 season in impressive fashion, securing a first-place finish in the men’s 100m finals at the Morgan State University Legacy Track Meet held in Baltimore, USA, from 19–20 April.

Amoah, representing ASICS, initially placed second in the prelims behind fellow Ghanaian Solomon Hammond, competing for Coppin State University.

Hammond clocked a time of 10.22 seconds, edging out Amoah’s 10.35 seconds. However, the two-time African Games medalist came back stronger in the finals, shaving off 0.22 seconds to secure the gold medal with a time of 10.13 seconds.

Hammond saw his time slightly worsen to 10.32 seconds in the men’s 100m finals, earning him the silver medal. Morgan State University’s Adrian Holley rounded out the top three with a time of 10.45 seconds.

Hammond continued his busy schedule at the competition, participating in both the 200m and 4x100m relay events. While narrowly missing out on a medal in the 200m, finishing fourth with a time of 21.09 seconds, he did find success in the relay.

Teaming up with Carl Drakes, Jarrett Gentles, and Noxroy Wright of Coppin State University, the quartet secured a dominant victory in the 4x100m relay, clocking a time of 40.31 seconds—a significant 0.37 seconds ahead of the second-place Hampton University team.
