Journalism isn’t about winning awards, says Edward Adeti

Adeti, a writer, reporter and producer with Media Without Borders was on Saturday (28 September) adjudged the 2023 P A V Ansah Journalist of the Year by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Accra

The 2023 PAV Ansah Journalist of the Year, Edward Adeti has said journalism is about speaking for the voiceless, fighting injustice and corruption in society.

Adeti, a writer, reporter and producer with Media Without Borders, was on Saturday (28 September) adjudged the 2023 P A V Ansah Journalist of the Year by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Accra.

Adeti earned a place in the pantheon of the best working in the fourth estate with his investigative workStealing from the Sick”.

“Stealing from the Sickunravelled the mystery behind shortages of drugs at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital and unmasked a syndicate whose activities may have cost lives.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (30 September), Adeti said that even though he is filled with joy for winning the award, journalism is not about winning awards.

I mean, of course, it’s a mix of some sense of fulfilment or joy. But a caution not to let this get too much into my head, because winning an award is not what journalism is about.

Journalism is simply about speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves, fighting injustice and corruption and ensuring that people live in a safe and just, and a free environment, Adeti said.
